April 19th, 2012

On 04/18/2012 at 2033 hours, Tilden Township Police assisted by Hamburg Borough Police, arrested Michael A. SHAAK at his residence in the 1500 Block of Hex Highway on an arrest warrant for felony Bribery In Official and Political Matters and a summary Tilden Township Ordinance violation.

The arrest stems from an incident on 03/27/2012 at about 2012 hours SHAAK’s residence. Tilden Township Police were dispatched to the scene along with the Hamburg Fire Department to investigate a structure fire. Upon arrival, it was determined that no structure was on fire but that an uncontained fire was in the back yard in violation of a Tilden Township Ordinance. During a conversation between SHAAK and Tilden Township Police Officer Peter J. Witman, SHAAK allegedly offered Officer Witman one hundred dollars ($100) to not file charges for the ordinance violation.

SHAAK was transported by police to the Berks County Central Processing Center where he was turned over to Berks County Sheriff’s deputies. He arraigned by MDJ Richard A. Gatti and released in lieu of $5000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 04/30/2012.
