“Accident scam”: A person calls you claiming that a family member has been hurt in an accident either out of state or out of country. The person claims that you need to pay the medical bill for insurance or that the family member was in an auto accident and you need to pay their bail. The scam may come from (514) 561-1334.

Residents should be suspicious of such calls. Always verify with family members first when receiving such news.

“IRS scam”: A person calls you claiming to be with the IRS, notifies you that the IRS is suing you but that you can clear it up over the phone by paying with a credit card. The scam may come from (253) 200-5879.

If someone calls you claiming they are the IRS, hang up and call the IRS at 1-800-829-4933.

Thank you to the residents who let our department know of these scams.
